Mary earned her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In 1984 she graduated with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies (Women's Studies/History). In 1993 she completed her Master in Social Work and Master of Public Health in maternal and child health. Mary has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2011 (provisionally licensed in 2008).
Mary has an extensive background in working with people with a trauma history (often domestic/sexual violence and/or child abuse). She focuses on stabilization and skill building first. Mary teaches the skills of emotion regulation, personal effectiveness, mindfulness, and distress tolerance (or how to get through the hard moments) using Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. She also provides trauma processing work for those who ready to do this work using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing). Mary is here to help adolescents and adults in individual counseling.
Couples counseling is another service provided by Mary. She believes that every person needs to feel heard and be validated by their significant other/s. Mary is happy to facilitate communication and enhance couples' validation and support strategies.
Fee: Sliding scale available. BCBS & other insurance in process.
Hours: Afternoon and evening hours Mon-Wed
